Perinatal Social Worker

About the role

Ishar is seeking a part-time Perinatal Social Worker to work three days a week. The ideal candidate will have experience working with women from migrant backgrounds. This is a fixed-term contract position until January 2027, with the possibility of extension.

Role Statement

Responsible for the delivery of high-quality specialist perinatal-related social work support to women from CaLD communities through evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches in collaboration with external stakeholders.


Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or a similar qualification with experience in a similar role.

  • Eligible for full membership of the AASW or relevant board.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with CaLD women and an understanding of barriers to accessing appropriate services.

  • Ability to build strong networks, partnerships and referral pathways to link clients to support services.

  • Experience in planning and delivering community educational programs.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering social work services in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Thorough understanding of trauma informed practice and the effects of complex trauma, and relevant legal requirements that apply.

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and manage complex cases, demonstrating strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to write reports and case notes effectively.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills in cross-cultural environments with a professional approach.

  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, with excellent attention to detail and initiative, and able to work under pressure.

  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, including competency in the use of MS Office, with the aptitude to learn new software and systems.

  • Genuine passion for women’s health and wellbeing, and alignment with organisational values.

  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Desirable

  • Experience working and understanding of the not-for-profit community sector.

  • Experience working with refugee and migrant populations in a community-based organisation.

  • Fluency in a second language, other than English.

  • Experience working with interpreters.

 Essential Requirements

  • Full unrestricted working rights in Australia.

  • Current WA police clearance dated within the last 12 months.

  • A current Driver’s Licence and own road-worthy insured vehicle.
